Sprinkles

Almost over....

... July, that is... and this month has disappeared.  Two new kittens added to our little family has kept me busier than usual, and cut into my reading time. However, that is not a complaint.

The kittens are still mostly in that big bathroom on the first floor... they have discovered the window and can look out into the backyard. Twice a day, I take the plexiglass away from the door and they can explore the TV room and say hello to Sweet Pea.  Our older cat is a sweetheart, and very tolerant of any changes in his environment. He made friends with Savannah when she was a puppy, and I have no doubt that he will be best buddies with Julius and Peaches before too long. For now, the kittens are content to follow Sweet Pea around the TV room, and Sweet Pea will watch the kittens playing with their toys but will not yet join them... he sits there and watches the activity like a wise old sage.

Savannah is still not allowed to be in the TV room with the kittens... she is way too big and one paw placed on top of either Julius or Peaches (like she does with Sweet Pea) would have me rushing a kitten to the vet. So Savannah is allowed to watch from a distance, and she smiles and wags her tail at them, until they run to the other side of the room and then she barks. Neither Julius nor Peaches seem to be afraid of her, but I don’t want to test their two-pound safety around a 75-pound dog just yet.

Texas has been on the news every night for a couple of weeks now... temperatures have been at or over 100 degrees for about that long, and for the life of me, I don’t understand why everyone seems so surprised. This happens every July or August... this is not news, it’s normal. However, on the one day when the temperature was just 95, it felt like a cold snap. Almost. The pond is all dried up, which happens every summer when we don’t get enough rain... but one good soaking rain will have that big hole in the ground looking like a real pond again.
