March Cookie Madness
Tonight was what could very well be our First Annual Cookie Exchange in this part of the Hills.... "March Cookie Madness" is what I called it... a cookie exchange that women usually do before Christmas, but not many have time for that before the holidays.
What surprised me most was that we didn't have duplicate cookie recipes. The dining room began to smell like a bakery as the cookie platters were put around the table..... peanut butter, oatmeal with raisins, coconut macaroons, sugar cookies with green sparkles, oatmeal with chocolate chips, pecans & Raisinets, chocolate chip with pecans, oatmeal with almonds, Irish cream brownies, German chocolate cookies. I also put a platter of strawberries, grapes and cheese on the table, but that didn't get much attention with all the cookie offerings there.
At one point, someone said how much fun the night was, and I talked about doing this again and inviting the husbands, and I got a little chorus of "Oh no you don't!" and "What?!" The ladies of the Hills just had a good time without the guys, having punch and tea and cookies and brownies...... and laughing about life up here in the country with the wildlife in the fields and ghosts in old houses.
I can see this being a monthly get-together..... or every other month..... when you live on a good-sized piece of property where your next-door neighbor isn't exactly next door, it's just nice to arrange these parties so we all don't just wave to one another as we're driving down the road and out to the main highway. A friendly wave does not a friendship make. March Cookie Madness, however, does the trick.
And April? That could be a Crazy Casserole Potluck Supper.... or something like that.
