Itchy Fingers
The cold/flu germs must be leaving my body because I'm starting to get my energy back. Usually, on non-sick days, I'm like that little pink Energizer bunny--- I can keep going and going and going. But there was no way for me to do that with the cold that I had, and I think my batteries just plain wore down.
Not today. I've been going since this morning... taking care of laundry, errands, reading, exercising, the usual stuff. And every time I walk through our living room and see that beautiful tree that isn't decorated yet, my fingers start to itch. I would love to get the ornaments up on it, but I can't do that till my husband gets the lights on. The lights have to go up first, and he has to do them. With all those sensitive antique lights, there's no way I would even attempt to get them on that tree.
So patience is my name. I'm hoping he'll do the lights tomorrow so I can get going with the rest of the decorations for the tree. We're also going for hair cuts tomorrow. Not cuts, actually, just trims. I never say "cut" to anyone with scissors in their hands. Say that word and you'll get a hair cut that's much too short. So I use the words "slight trim" or "touch up the ends" and I get just the style I want.
The other trick is not to let them wash your hair. Once your hair is wet, it looks longer than it actually is and they usually cut off too much. Then they blow it dry and you look in the mirror and tell them it's too short and they tell you "It'll grow." (Give me a break.) I go in there for a hair trim with clean and shiny hair, which I've styled myself that morning. I tell the girl to just trim the ends of exactly the style that's there. This system has worked well for years now. And if something works.... (you know the end of that line).
I went into the local Hallmark store today, to see what was new and interesting. We have a Hallmark store here that is so jam-packed with shelves and cases and display racks that you don't even want to sneeze in there. One good sneeze and half the displays could topple. And if one display goes down in there, the rest will fall like dominoes because they're all so close together. I just bought a few things today, that I can't mention because it will spoil surprises. I will probably go back to Hallmark after Christmas, to get a bunch of things that will be marked down for their holiday sales. I love Hallmark, but some of their things are just way over-priced, in my humble opinion.
Nothing much happening today....... I feel like I'm just getting out and about after being sick. Driving to the Hallmark store was the furthest I've driven since before Thanksgiving. I even stopped at the Senior Center today, to drop off the magazines and catalogs that I've been saving for them, as well as some Christmas decorations that I thought they could use. Every year when I take the holiday decorations out of the closet, I go through them and take out some things for the seniors. When I went in the Center today, they were just taking their boxes of Christmas decorations out of the storage closet. Next time I go in to see them, their meeting room will look like Christmas.
So that's been about the day. I missed the last half hour of Oprah's show today, and I think this was the day that she was giving out the title of her newest Book Club selection. One of my neighbors stopped by to say hello while Oprah was on, which was why I missed that part of the show. I need a little sign by the front doorbell: "Don't expect me to come to the door if either Barry Manilow or Oprah is on television." Can't do that, of course. But honestly, I watch so very little TV. Wouldn't you know that someone would drop by during my one blessed hour of afternoon television? Oh well... I'm sure the new book will be listed on Oprah's website.
And if that is my biggest gripe for the day, then I surely have a very nice life. Which I know I do.
